Pastor & Middle School Religion

“What is important about teaching religion is that the students are, at the same time, learning about and experiencing God’s love in Christ.  The Holy Spirit is always at work when the Word of God is taught.”

These thoughts inspire Pastor Frederich as he teaches theology to the seventh and eighth grade students who are blessed to learn from his vast store of knowledge and from his humble example as a servant of God.  Motivated by his strong commitment to Lutheran education, his involvement with the school goes beyond teaching as he extends support for students and staff in a great variety of ways.

Pastor Frederich graduated from St. Paul’s Junior College in Concordia, Missouri and from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He received both his Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology degrees from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.

He served as pastor at Bethany Lutheran Church in St. Louis from 1981 until moving to the Elgin area in 1995. His last eight years in St. Louis he also taught speech and homiletics at Concordia Seminary. From 1995 until 1999 he taught full-time at Fox Valley Lutheran Academy. Then in 1999 he was called to be associate pastor at St. John's, becoming senior pastor in 2007.  He continued teaching part time at Fox Valley Lutheran Academy until 2010.
