2nd Grade Teacher

“I see my students as special gifts from God, unique with their own individual personalities and talents.  I know God has a special plan for each one of them so I want to help them discover and use their talents and abilities for the Lord.”

This philosophy inspires Susan Wahl to enjoy teaching at St. John’s because here the teachers share the message of Jesus Christ as our Savior and where they make their students’ needs a priority.

The program she has developed for her second grade students includes many fun-filled learning opportunities. Classroom activities expand reading and math skills while also providing ways to learn about and explore the world we live in. In addition to their classroom studies, the second graders participate in a Thanksgiving play, swimming lessons at the Elgin Centre, and various field trips and activities used to support the classroom curriculum.

Mrs. Wahl graduated from Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She has taught in Lutheran schools for over 20 years. Besides being a classroom teacher, she has previously served as a substitute teacher and a classroom aide. At St. John’s she is an active member of the church who teaches Sunday School. She and her husband, who is a St. John’s alumnus, also have two children who attended and graduated from St. John’s.
