3rd & 4th Grade Teacher

“While some may say, ‘Those that can’t do, teach;’ I believe those that teach shape the future.”

For that reason Karen Phillips eagerly prepares for and awaits the start of school each year so she can get busy with helping to shape the future of the students she will teach. For Mrs. Phillips, being an educator is one of the most rewarding aspects of her life. This year she will teach a combined third and fourth grade class in the morning, and then focus in the afternoon on fourth graders alone. She also will be working closely with PAWS, the St. John's parent group, serving as their liaison.

She has a passion for reading and shares that with her students through her extensive classroom library and emphasis on book reports and similar projects in her curriculum. She and her husband Jeff are long time active members of St. John’s where she has taught Sunday School for over 20 years. Her son Nick attended St. John’s for kindergarten through eighth grade, graduating in 2004.

Mrs. Phillips started her career in education at District U-46 in 2000, where she worked with children diagnosed with learning and emotional disabilities both one-on-one and in a classroom setting. She is a graduate of National Louis University with endorsements in both Middle School and Special Education. This year she will begin her colloquy classes at Concordia University in Chicago.
