Middle School Mathematics & Technology - 6th Grade Homeroom

Recipient of Lutheran Education Association 2017 Outstanding New Lutheran Middle School Teacher Award

Celebrating the impact of Verne Schultz’s 2017 award as the Lutheran Education Association's outstanding new middle school teacher, students benefit from his patient and caring manner as he works with the upper grades in the areas of math and technology. He also plans and carries out the annual sixth grade outdoor education program that has been part of the St. John's educational experience for over 50 years.

Mr. Schultz’s background, however, was not initially in education.  He graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology and from Elmhurst College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science.

He then had a variety of experiences in other career work before he chose teaching. As he worked in the corporate world, he was also involved in working with Scouts and at Walcamp. Through those opportunities, he found that he really enjoyed working with young people and decided he would become a full-time teacher.
